And he didn’t “cancel” the show (good God), let alone its female composer – he merely gave his opinion on this one work. Which to today’s eyes, and through no fault of hers, certainly didn’t strike one as a major achievement, though there are good numbers.
(Was the Encores failure due to it being a hopelessly dated musical, a sub-par production, or both? Can’t say myself, but have enjoyed the cast album enough that I would love to visit it again unde different circumstances – perhaps someone else will mount it, provided no one else erroneously thinks it’s “canceled”.) |
