One of the things that made me fall for theatre was a college production of Irma back in the day. The lead female actor was thoroughly winning.

At Encores it was thrilling to hear the great score and dance arrangements by John Kander played live. The show was sorely miscast. The lead female had no gamin charm. One yearned for Jeanmaire or Elizabeth Seal or even Shirley MacLaine (the movie is dreadful). I'm not sure "gamin charm" exists today, since personality is not encouraged in the arts or culture. I can think of no current "name" who has it. Well, that's not true. Irina Dvorovenko may have it. But she wasn't cast at Encores in the role. Instead she was cast at Encores as the aging ballerina in Grand Hotel. Blame the director for not finding the right Irma.
