It's a pleasure to see a production of INTO THE WOODS where none of the performers are stars and you can just accept the characters as characters and not icons (they are already iconic enough). It looks like the Mysterious Man has a Struwwelpeter vibe and might live up to his name rather than the melancholic gentleness that I have often seen brought to the part.
Hope it lives beyond Bath and that it is a success! Gilliam seems to be in excellent shape both mentally and physically and after all the drama at the Old Vic, it'll be great if it turns out to be a sui generis triumph.
