In addition to the one in the Times it’s gotten across the board raves from such outlets as The Washington Post, NPR and Newsweek, popular websites like Air Mail and PopMatters, and perhaps most of all, it was a “starred” review on all 3 major book-industry review sites: Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist.
It’s been deemed essential (and entertaining) reading by everyone who’s covered it, and even though it may be “only” #500 on Amazon’s full list of books, it’s currently #5 in their “Composer & Musician Biographies” and #1 in “Theatre Biographies” – ahead of the new about-to-be-published diary memoir by Alan Rickman and everything else.
