I watched 13 this afternoon and really liked it. It's an excellent film version of the Broadway musical, which I saw back in 2008 and quite enjoyed. Jason Robert Brown's songs for both the stage show and film are very well crafted and do a great job of telling Evan's story. I liked the film's expansion which includes the various adults in Evan's life.
I was struck by the performance of Peter Hermann, who plays Joel, Evan's dad. The character is remarkably similar to that of Jack Boyle, the father of Nicky and ex-husband of Erin on the TV series Blue Bloods, which is also played by Hermann. |
