I loved Bareilles' vocal performance

An interesting read. I was also struck by how I thought she served the character (and the composer) so well, but also imbued the songs with her own, personal touch. She didn't "pop-ify" them in any dramatic fashion, but there was a... contemporary vocal 'sheen', if you will, to her tone and delivery that felt uniquely hers. Never in opposition to or to the detriment of character or tone of the piece. The night I saw the show, her Moment in the Woods received the loudest ovation of the night. Damn near stopped the show.
