I'm sure this is not the reason, but as someone who has written a number of non-fiction books, I can testify that indexing is expensive!
I think of the lyric from "The Lady is a Tramp":
"I follow Winchell and read every line
That's why the lady is a tramp."
Walter Winchell's gossip column bolded the important names. |
