I absolutely loved the book, but if I have one small criticism it would be some disappointment that Mary Rodgers didn't talk more about the R&H musicals that were created throughout the 1950s when she would have been old enough to have a point of view.
She doesn't have that much to say in detail about South Pacific, The King and I, Cinderella and Flower Drum Song and I don't think she even mentions Me & Juliet or Pipe Dream (oh, if only there was an index to look that up!). I would've been very curious to hear any remembrances she had about the creation of those shows and the personalities involved. But perhaps in her twenties she was, unsurprisingly, too involved in her own life and career to be taking much notice. |
