This could be really interesting and possibly a lot more useful to an understanding of New York theater in the mid-to-late twentieth century than the Mary Rodgers book.
Gail Merrifield Papp had a great influence on Joe Papp's new play choice from 1966 to his death in 1991, and for years, she and other former Shakespeare Festival insiders have be reluctant to talk to writers and filmmakers, fearing they'd misinterpret and misunderstand. This book could be closer to the truth.
And, reportedly, it has a series of indexes to make historians happy. |
