| I don't think Brice would have had a problem with "Don't Rain on My Parade" because it's basically a Charleston which has been slowed down (almost in half time), and Charlestons were very much in vogue during the 1920s. The slowed-down rhythms of the Charleston helps to give the song its drive. Brice had a fine voice, and like you said, she sang unamplified in the New Amsterdam Theater, home to the "Ziegfeld Follies" then and "Aladdin" nowadays and was heard just fine to put over her comedy numbers and torch songs like "My Man" with great success. |
