| I had NO idea Cariou was *that* young when he originated the role, or George Lee Andrews. That's actually shocking, and I'll attribute it to how differently people age now than they did in the 50s/60s. I can't even conceive of someone under 40 in this role now, no matter how poorly they've aged. And I mean the character is written to be at least mid 40s, no? So casting Cariou, at least a decade younger than the role, is so interesting. I know "middle-age" isn't the same age now as it was in 1973 or 1900 for that matter (hell, in 1900 "middle-age" could be reached by 23 for much of the population, and 33 for men in 1970, apparently -- but of course it's all about the perception of the audience) ...but Glynis was *50 years old* when she did the role... and she is not only meant to be a relative contemporary of Fredrik's, but to have a 13 year old daughter (making her a very unlikely 37 year old new mom... by Fredrick, no less, and as believed to be Cariou would put him at 20 years old when they conceived, ha -- possible at least). But I do agree that Jason Danieley does feel boyish even still. |
