To quote a lyric from her signature song from ''I Had a Ball,'' ''what a groove, what a gas'' to hear Karen Morrow share her showbiz stories.

Morrow tells tales about Buddy Hackett, Carol Burnett, Jerry Herman and John Kenley, who once cast her as Lady Thiang in ''The King and I.''

At 85, she looks terrific and is grateful to Jack Lawrence and Stan Freeman's title tune to ''I Had a Ball'' or else ''no one would remember me.''

A shame she never had a big Broadway hit, but once you hear Morrow belt, you won't forget her. She did tons of summer stock and regional.

I caught her cabaret act at the Russian Tea Room, and wish I'd seen her in ''Sweeney Todd.'' (And congrats, Mlop, on your big shoutout!)
