| So it’s not surprising that I like loop over ham. I never think of ham. I really don’t know why it won the Pulitzer. I haven’t seen the other two nominees in 2022 so I don’t know the competition. But strange loop won against soft power (which I really liked a lot) and heroes of fourth turning (which I didn’t care for) which are both very strong contenders. I think having the ghost of father in ham took the show out of reality. On the other hand, loop is very well rooted in reality. The score might be a bit derivative, but I do end up humming bits of songs days later. One issue is that I don’t think a twenty something has the perspective in some of those songs In other words, I may have realized it was destructive behavior and self loathing on some of the sexual encounters i had but the perspective in the songs are really almost written by an older man looking back. Kind of picture Rent being written by a fifty year old Larson would look and feel a lot different. Kind of off topic—is Tyler perry really idolized in the black community as shown in the loop? He's raised to almost sainthood. Is that true? |
