Because of how it works in the Tyler Perry form..
Chitlin' Circuit stereotypes in a farce setting, which is what Tyler Perry rather honestly and diligently built his empire on.
And I wish I could remember the piece that someone wrote (during the whole Brustein/August Wilson "On Cultural Power" moment in the late 1990's) that argued for the Circuit as a legitimate long standing example of successfully African American theatrical culture. |
