Although I don't share your perspective on the ghost, I understand what you're referring to with "older" theatrical devices being used in a modern setting. But, since I went in knowing the general premise and that there would be ties to Hamlet, I wasn't 'taken out of' the play at all. In fact, I found the moments with ghost Dad involving.
As for Tyler Perry, Michael R. Jackson's recent Fresh Air interview was very interesting and he and Terry spend a healthy amount of time talking about his relationship to Tyler Perry's work and some conversations he and Perry have had since. It's well worth a listen. |
