"a bit threadbare" is a generous way to put it.
As with any production transferring, whether it's from another US theater, or the West End, or West End originating in a Chocolate Factory... not properly producing the production for Broadway, and the broadway theater it's going in, is a really big mistake and does no good for the show they're reviving or the production they are producing... except, as they hope, for the bottom line.
I'd love to have see Waddingham do it, but I do find it hard to buy anyone who reads as under 40 as a believable Desiree. I know the math works fine, but there's a maturity to the role of Desiree and Fredrick and when it's missing that the show is off. |
