Frequently when a play wins the Tony Award, either Goodman or Steppenwolf does the first production of it in Chicago. However, as far as I can remember, the only staging of The History Boys in the Chicago area has been at Timeline Theatre in 2009 for a 5-month run. It was quite a powerful and provocative production.
My recollection is that Alan Bennett gave Timeline permission to create a sort of pre-show preface that showed the activities the young guys engaged in before going to class. There was no dialogue in this added scene, just the various routines engaged in by the boys. |
