| Caught an early preview of this two hander comedy at the Theater at Saint Clements. I’m a sucker for old-time Jewish ethnic humor a la OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES and MR. SATURDAY NIGHT, so I enjoyed myself even if some of the bits in Ed. Weinberger’s largely sprightly script were a bit predictable. But never fear: old pros Hal Linden—amazingly vibrant at 91—and 89-year-old Bernie Kopell made for a mostly funny and sometimes touching 80 minutes of back and forth ruminations on food, sex, marriage, life and the afterlife from the respective perspectives of two ancient Hebrews escaping Egypt and a couple of strangers meeting on a cemetery bench in Long Island. You could do worse. |
