sirpupnyc, thank you, that's very helpful. I had assumed that the seasons were shortened because of what happened to the Broadway season.
The portion of the article where they compare the 2021-2022 Broadway season to the 2018-2019 Broadway season was a real apples-to-oranges comparison. They say that the recent Broadway season "started slow and late," but they don't give any details about how slow and how late. I think the official tally of the season is June 1 - May 31, so 1/3 of the season essentially didn't happen. I think it would have been better if they compared Oct 1 - May 31 for each season if their point is to see if audiences are returning. Or March 1 - July 31 if they want to know more current trends. |
