Although the latest revival tried to have it that Higgins was unforgiveable, it’s perfectly natural for the director of a production (Eliza’s debut) to be celebrated as much or more than Eliza herself. I imagine Jerome Robbins was celebrated with at least as much vigor as Carol Lawrence when West Side Story opened.
