Well, the eyes of the world are certainly on this church now. If they should try this again with some other work, I wonder what the penelties will be? In cases like this, do the financial penelties increase? Do they get a certain number of "strikes" before some larger punishment is levied?
The problem with fundamentalist religious folks (of all stripes and brands) is that no matter what punishment is meted out and no matter the legitimacy of doing that, they will always be able to spin it into their church being persecuted for their beliefs. The fact that they broke the law in the first place wouldn't necessarily even enter into their line of thinking. Everything they do is justified, because...well...Jesus. And any and all pushback is evil persecution as in Biblical times.
It will be interesting to see if they do indeed try this again. I hope Disney goes after them too. |
