DistantDrumming and others, I've got a REALLY LONG POST in my brain all about A STRANGE LOOP, why I think its writing is so terrific, why I think it matters, etc. A post that would take me two hours to write.

I don't have two hours. God only knows when I will.

BUT I wanted to just chime in here to say that I really do think Mr. Jackson is more than a "serviceable" composer and lyricist. Content dictates form, and I do think this score aimed to quite specifically sound like the music that's been playing in Usher's mind. Whether those are TV show theme songs, Donna Summer disco, "white girl" music, or apocalyptic gospel, I think it genuinely serves the story. Really, really well.

The post / piece I want to write will aim to address the things I hear Broadway insiders saying about this show vs. the things my Black, queer friends -- who are not "musical theater people" -- have been saying.

I actually have so much to say that I considered putting my real name on it.

Why can't I write like I'm running out of time?
