| That is absolutely wild. And as I keep saying, if it's as cheaply designed and badly directed as it was in London... that makes this price tag even more ridiculous. | |

| The subscription includes the ticket. I subscribed to the season for I think $300 for 6 shows | |

| If you purchased a season membership (and if you didn't, you won't have access to get tickets today), your ticket is free. When you add it to the cart it lists as the face value of the ticket, but when you check out a discount is applied for the full cost. | |

| Yes, it’s a weird system. It looks as if you’re being charged for the ticket even if you have a membership until you get to the very last page where the charge magically reduced to zero. | |

| Of course, most major Off-Broadway companies do one cash-grab production a season, but NYTW has been getting particularly bad in this department in recent years. | |

| I’m not sure that term is ever really fair with non-profit theaters, but especially in this case; Broadway Journal reports that $2 million in enhancement money has been put toward the off-Broadway production in order to make it affordable to mount. It’s also noteworthy that the run as announced is barely 6 weeks long – beginning 3 days before Thanksgiving and closing the week after New Year’s. (Supposedly it was originally meant to be longer but got delayed due to a filming conflict with one of the leads). If the show moves to Broadway obviously NYTW gets a cut of that, but a) there’s obviously no guarantee it’ll be the next Rent or Once; and b) there’s no guarantee it’ll even move. So yes, $145 is expensive for off-Broadway, but if the enhancement money is 2 million and this is still what they’re charging for tickets, I’m sure it’s just capitalized in such a way so that if (when) it sells out, NYTW can break even and at least make a tiny bit of money if the show doesn’t move. From Broadway Journal: “The director’s sister, producer Sonia Friedman — whose company is a subsidiary of ATG — signed investment papers with Chocolate Factory Productions and Patrick Catullo to raise $2 million to enhance the musical. The “current plan,” according to the papers filed with New York Attorney General Letitia James, is to present the first-ever Broadway revival of Merrily after the off-Broadway tryout.” |

| No matter how good it is and great cast. It’s just such a niche show unlike woods or Sweeney. | |

| Don’t disagree with your second sentence, but as to the first, if Merrily was ever going to be on Broadway again, it would be with those three leads, and at this time, as part of a seemingly ongoing unofficial Sondheim celebration. It does make me laugh, the idea of Company, Merrily and Sweeney all potentially running on Broadway in the span of less than a year, since that’s essentially half of the Sondheim season the Kennedy Center did 20 years ago. Regardless, if the reviews don’t completely kill it - unlikely, as it comes with those names along with the imprimatur of an acclaimed British production - and if the plan is already to move it, I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Especially since, unlike something like last year’s Assassins, it won’t nearly have played out its intended audience or given everyone interested a chance to see it in a 6-week run at that tiny theater. Indeed, it’s thrilling and not at all implausible to even contemplate new theater fans or Sondheim aficionados eager to discover the score of Merrily and see it in-person after the summer when Into the Woods improbably became one of the biggest hits on Broadway. And maybe that’s how the show becomes at least a little less niche. |

| They’re fine now, and I was surprised by how much was available on a number of dates I looked at. I think NYTW is very careful about not oversubscribing, so even if it takes a while to get through when tickets first be fine available, most subscribers can be accommodated. | |

| Finally got through on website. The three tix I wanted originally were still in my cart, so I was able to get them. That was a relief, because a lot of tix that day are now gone. I feel sympathy for their situation, on one hand. On the other, they know they're going to get thousands of people trying to get on their site simultaneously. Surely there's something they can do? |

| Subscription houses are a scam. They dangle the carrot and then we have to work to get it. If they can't provide proper ticket services they deserve to fail or at least deal with the inevitable customer vitriol. We would have better luck in a casino. | |
