Ticket prices ARE a problem. Sure, the highest- priced shows like Music Man and Plaza Suite sold well. But folks who bought those tickets had less to spend on other shows they might have been interested in, and those other shows were too often overpriced without the lure of a Hugh Jackman or a Sarah Jessica Parker to rationalize hundreds of dollars a ticket. When the entire center orchestra is blocked out for premium pricing and when dynamic pricing discourages advanced planning, I don’t see how it can be denied that ticket prices have become high enough to discourage regular theatergoing.

People going to see The Music Man probably don't have a problem buying anything.

Oh, that’s not true. I splurged on Music Man and bought a ticket at the highest price I’d ever paid for a Broadway show (and will probably never pay as much again). The only other shows I saw last spring were American Buffalo which I had a sizable discount for and Take Me Out which I’d bought pre-pandemic. But that ate up my theater budget, so I sadly passed on Company and Hangman and a few other shows I would have considered had I had the bucks.

The RUSH line for The Music Man is usually very busy, sometimes going around the block when box office opens. At $ 49 per ticket - and one can get a pair at that price- ( occasionally seats can be fairly good ones), people do take advantage of the offer.
