That people will pay sky-high prices for three exceptional shows does not refute the argument that Broadway ticket prices are too high. People didn't pay those same prices, did they, or even much lesser prices, for all the shows from last season that closed.

Yes,part of the problem is that only a very small number of shows can support current pricing. I don't know if Funny Girl is still doing this, but when it opened, the "regular" non-premium orchestra price was $269. And Take Me Out in its last weeks was at $299 for the entire orchestra, I believe.

So Take Me Out was at TKTS at 40% off, and it was still something like $180. And Funny Girl's TKTS price wasn't that far behind. Add in the COVID risk, and for me at least, the days of "let me pop on over to TKTS and find something" are ending. Broadway has been moving towards event programming for a long time, but now it really is starting to feel that for the shows further down on the list... well, I'm just skipping them rather than figuring out how to see them. The budget won't allow it, and there's risk and hassle. And unfortunately, a lot of those shows I'm skipping are the "that sounds kind of interesting" play that Broadway really needs from the artistic side. But I can't support those shows in the way that I'd like anymore.
