| Have I missed information about this? I don't remember hearing anything about it at all. Very intrigued by the few details presented here - especially that it is more about the city, and not at all based on the story of Robert De Niro's and Liza Minnelii's characters in the film. | |

| I'm confused by this whole thing! I am certainly excited by the prospect of new work from these talented people. I just don't get that they aren't using the 2 characters from the film. "Loosely based" on the original film means what? They can't change the title because that presumably is what is going to be bringing in audiences. Frankly, it would be interesting to explore the Minnelli and Deniro characters with music. BUT, not having the female lead sing the title song would be strange too. If you're going to write a musical based in that era, with interesting characters with a love-hate relationship, etc. then why not just write a new, original musical? By calling it New York, New York don't you owe it to just musicalize the original film? (which was pretty much a musical to begin with?) I believe it also said they were to use the songs from the film and supplement them with new ones from Kander and Miranda. It just seems like they are trying to have it both ways. I'm still confused :-) | |

| Remember that time that they turned the first Fame movie into a musical...except they really didn't? :-) | |
