So like you said the recoup of one does not mean the other recoups. I assume the money flowing to the broadway production corporation is part of the licensing that the tour llc pays. I assume it’s a percentage of the tour gross. I wonder what that typical is—5% maybe to broadway llc. The license of course is much higher percentage because the creators, director and others get percentages.
The broadway production cost $17m according to Forbes and lasted 12 months. The first few months were just over $1m/wk but it dropped to break even from Jan to august. So my guess is only a few million of the $17m were recouped.
It’s probably why the books on a broadway production aren’t closed for years after the show closes because of the residuals from the tours and international productions. |
