I find it peculiar that the director did not investigate or see other interpretations and revisions of the work. If you’re directing Hamlet, you’d see everything you could see, I’d think. You’d read the Granville-Barker work. You’d read Gielgud’s ideas. And then you’d go ahead and do your own version. But you’d investigate, at least I’d think so.
