Thanksgiving on (and off) Broadway -- what are you looking forward to?
Posted by: DistantDrumming 02:25 am EDT 08/30/22

I have some family visiting from out of the country for Thanksgiving and we're considering first doing a few days in NY together Thanksgiving Week before heading down to my house for Thanksgiving weekend. They're big theatre people from the UK, so a few days in NY is right up their alley. They love plays and musicals, so no real restrictions.

Of the productions announced (or very likely) opening by then, what are you looking forward to?

I think Ohio State Murders would have to be on our list.

If Into the Woods extends again and offers an interesting new cast, I think that would also likely be on the list.

The Met Opera has Kelli O'Hara, Rene Fleming and Joyce DiDonato all together in the new production of The Hours. Luxury casting!

What I am not looking forward to is the standing ovation your family will give at the end of every performance.

My October trip will be Topdog/Underdog, Death of a Salesman, and The Piano Lesson, with deep regret that I don’t have room for Cost of Living. I imagine most of them will be available during your timeframe.

Kimberly Akimbo.

It's a charming show with a radiant, transcendent performance from Victoria Clark. Truly not to be missed.

Not new but Hadestown with Lillias White. I’m going in early October, can’t wait to see her in this role!

Oh! I'd missed that announcement and Hadestown would be "new to us" anyway. I have such an aversion to steampunk, that it had never been top of my list, but given its acclaim, I should probably check it out.

I like the one number I have seen from "Some Like It Hot" and the cast looks pretty great too!
