| is a faithful recreation of the original sets and costumes - and staging (Gilbert's promptbooks, meticulously detailed, survive). After the film wrapped, the UK's Carl Rosa Opera Company acquired the sets and costumes, and now tour a recreation of the 1885 original Mikado in their repertoire. I saw it years ago at Theatre Royal Bath. Quite terrific. | |

| Saw it when it first released at a small arthouse here in St. Petersburg. It never played any of our commercial film theaters except for one in Sarasota for a week. Excellent and memorable fun. | |

| For an Academy-Award winning actor like Jim Broadbent, it's amazing how little press he seems to get, | |

| certainly in relation to other actors. He won for "Iris", but maybe he just likes being in demand and working a lot without all the celebrity stuff. He's wonderful in this, as is the rest of the cast. | |

| Keep in mind that very fine actors like Broadbent, its a question of what they want. He likely has an agent and press rep who are not out looking for media frenzy about him. He's an actor getting on with his job. And doing it very well - always. Many actors have aggressive press reps who claw and scratch every day to get as much coverage and as many interviews and appearances as possible, (Who can ever forget his rendition of 'Like a Virgin' in Moulin Rouge>?) | |

| Sure but it also, in many ways, has absolutely nothing to do with what he wants... I doubt Jim Broadbent could get headlines or buzz or media attention if he wanted to. He is not "hot" or "young" or buzzworthy for anything except consistently excellent work in films, many (or nearly most) of them being films that do not get much "buzz" either despite being excellent, acclaimed or loved. There's very little demand for interviews or photoshoots or red carpet moments or gossip or quotes or statements about current events or anything like that from Broadbent. He's had an absolutely amazing career that any character actor would dream of... but I don't think he stays out of the press because he has chosen to, I think the press has chosen it for him even if he agrees! | |

| I didn't make it far enough into Moulin Rouge to see that. | |
