It’s news to me that Elton John has already moved on to the musical TAMMY FAE in the West End before PRADA even gets to Broadway. He’s become a very prolific musical theater composer.

Will Prada even make Broadway at all? I'd have thought that was a long way off given the state it was in, in Chicago.

I've got tickets to various performances of Tammy Faye, including first preview. I'm intrigued. In a recent interview Rupert Goold said
"The world of televangelism, in particular the Bakkers’ show, was “a theatrical world” which lent itself to a musical comedy, he added. But there was a serious side, too."

Musical comedy? oh.

It's only really Tammy Faye herself I can imagine singing, and I hope she gets a fabulous gospel style 11 o'clock number. With Andrew Rannells as Jim Bakker, I assume her will get moments to use that big voice of his.

Elton has had flops with Lestat and Prada (in it's current state) and Jake Shears' work on Tales of the City was not good, thankfully James Graham is an excellent writer so hopefully this will translate in his first musical.

Looking forward to it!

I'll keep an open mind if I have a chance to see it, but, on the face of it, it seems two famous people who have been overdone in movies/TV/theatre are Tammy Faye Bakker and Princess Diana. I find it hard to get excited to see another take. But I hope to hear reports that change my mind.

TAMMY FAYE has long been in development and had been rumoured for the Almeida - a possible production first announced in Jan 2021 with hopes it would be mounted by year's end but I would imagine with Covid, Elton's tour schedule and other conflicting projects, it was easier said than done.

I have tickets for early Nov and haven't been this excited about a new show in some time.

So this means the Kristin Chenoweth/Henry Krieger project that's been kicking out for a while now is probably dead, huh? She mentioned it in interviews as recently as 2019. I would LOVE to have seen that version. *le sigh*

"RISE", which was the Chenoweth as Tammy Faye project, had been workshopped some time ago. But Kreiger had been replaced by David Yazbek (great choice).

The announcement was made prior to covid which, no doubt, had an effect on schedules but I guess it remains to be seen if we will ever get Chenowith's Tammy (and I hope we somehow do).
