I did see this play in London and thought is was remarkable.

I can't recall the last time 3 hours had ever flown by so fast.

I consider it a must-see. :-)

....and absolutely loved it. It's a bit of a slow burn as it's a big family saga with several plot lines and some characters played by children in early scenes and then adults later, but one follows it all, nevertheless, and it all adds up to a stunning and poignant conclusion. It certainly takes some concentration from the audience but not because of particularly intellectual ideas.

It's the highly emotional story of Stoppard's own family history and his discovery of past secrets. Gorgeous staging and designs. I hope the ensemble cast in NY will be as wonderful as in London. I expect I''ll see it again.

You must have seen the original London production, not the shorter version the play became when it returned when the London theaters reopened. I’m sorry we won’t see the original in NY and hope it won’t be difficult to follow the complex story after all the cuts. I wonder if Stoppard will address this when he speaks at the 92nd St Y in a couple weeks.

Peg, I wrote my post above as you were posting. I, for one, did see the play pre-pandemic, not long after it opened. I'm distressed to hear there were cuts later. I do hope NY sees the original version.

Indeed, I hope someone will explicitly ask him about cuts for American audiences.

Does LEOPOLDSTADT play with an intermission? Perhaps, like FOLLIES, having an intermission would
break the tension.
