Yes, but the seats offered have not been good for THIS production. Perhaps, as you suggest, seat selection will be better closer to performance date, but I guess I’m still clinging to the obsolete model I grew up with where the further in advance tickets were purchased, the better the seats were.

Seats get better because members cancel or exchange their tickets shortly before they're supposed to go. Same thing happens with the Public, who also has members, not subscribers. That's a perk to me. I don't know if there's an exception to this policy for Ohio State Murders, since it's not their theater.

I don't think the model you describe has been valid for a few years (in general), at least not in my experience - maybe since premium sales started. When did you grow up, anyway :) (just kidding - authentic smiley there)

Then I'm guessing you grew up before premium seating was a thing. I'm not surprised that the best seats are being held back for the big spenders rather those who have plunked down $50 members. And yeah, It's a bummer. But "animals are treated better"? LOL. This kid's goat might disagree.
