I wonder how Donna Murphy's performances of HELLO, DOLLY! did financially. The performance I saw her, the place was packed with people who wanted to see, not just the show, but her specifically. It wasn't like Murphy was a placeholder for the star...SHE was the star.

And I was a bit surprised that Betty Buckley wasn't put on in New York, at least for a limited run. There was so much curiosity about how she was going to play the role that I imagine she could have sold the show for a few weeks prior to the tour. Or maybe the the tour could have come back to New York and played a limited run at some point. I'd have loved to have had the chance to see both Buckley and Carmello in the role.
