On page 317 there is a photo of the 3 "friends". The date is 1980. The caption reads "Here's to us! Who's like us? Damn few."

At this point in the book, Mary suggests that her father consider The Light in the Piazza film as an idea for a musical.

Mary has quite a sense of humor in comparing herself, Laurents, and Sondheim to the 3 friends in Sondheim's future show. I always wondered if Richard Rodgers or even David Shire might have been an influence for Frank. Laurents, of course, as Franklin Shepard, Inc. is a wickedly appropriate choice. Thoughts?
