I agree completely with Chazwaza, below. If Kiss of the Spider Woman isn't "a top drawer musical," nothing is. It's the kind of masterpiece that reveals something more of itself with each fresh encounter.
I also agree with you, however, that I'd prefer a good new musical to any revival. Not that we're likely, in this era, to get a good new musical when it's so much easier just to exploit a famous movie title or yet another pop artist's songbook from the audience's far-off youth.
