I don't think this is driven by ART so much as Harvard, which is moving a lot of their campus across the river.

In terms of house size, what they have right now really works for ART, and I'd be surprised if they scale up by too much. The space is large enough that it can be a good home for Broadway-bound shows (which have the added benefit of being hot tickets due to the limited capacity), while small enough that they can do more intimate and experimental fare, whether an Off-Broadway show like "Endlings" or the semi-immersiveness of the Malloy/Chavkin "Moby-Dick". Creating a larger house, or even a second seating level, would negatively impact their ability to be a flexible, regional hub for a variety of New York-bound shows.
