I'm not sure why I typed Sonia over Hanna. In both productions I have seen on stage of The Merry Widow, the 2009 with Elizabeth Futral and the 2015 with Renee Fleming at Chicago Lyric Opera, the title character was named Hanna.

However, I adore the 1934 film with Jeanette MacDonald, who goes by Sonia. Also, in two of my most cherished cast recordings (with Kitty Carlisle and Dorothy Kirsten), once again Sonia is the name of choice. Nevertheless, June Bronhill's Sadler Wells version is quite spectacular, and she is named Anna.

My favorite is always the one I'm listening to at any given moment.
