The reason "Last Five Years" is one of his most performed works is because it's about something he's passionate about beyond "I would like to be successful" - yes, it's an ugly kinda passion in the "I'm not at fault for my failed marriage" way, but it's at least a passion.

No. And this is in no way a criticism of Brown's work either - but I believe the reason THE Last Five Years is one of his most performed works, especially recently, is because it's a cast of two, and then also because the songs have become very popular among theatre fans.
