The 1974 revival was my first exposure to Candide. Some gripe about the quality of the singing. Perhaps it could have been better sung. That being said, the entire performance was delightful. I remember it to be not so much in the round as immersive. Lewis J Stadlen and June Gable? I have seen many a 'Candide' since and no one's performance, particularly bringing out the comedy, has successfully compared to the two. Sadly, my mother did not take me to see Irra Petina as the Old Lady. Just because I was a few months old doesn't seem like a good enough reason for me to miss Barbara Cook's 'Glitter and Be Gay."

BTW: Your memory is very accurate. Mark Baker was quite beautiful, especially as the wandering Candide.
