I don’t think the Tonys would implement such a change as soon as this season, but I do think it’s inevitable.
I’d like to see a “Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role in a Musical” category with up to 10 nominees (regardless of gender). Then a voting system that would award the top 2 performers (again, regardless of gender). Maybe a 3rd if the votes are in a very close margin.
If this was the case last year, I think we might have seen Tony Winners Joaquina Kalukango and Sharon D. Clark. |
