You are ABSOLUTELY correct. I just that there will never be consensus on the type of people theatres are named for and if people want to debate that, it is better to have a dispassionate discussion not centered on one person, etc.
Brooks Atkinson was a monumental figure in theatre history (as was Simon, etc), but significance falls to the pages of history and patrons exiting the theatre don't leave with any understanding of who the man was of what importance he held. It's just another meaningless name on a building.. whereas it's far easier to point to Simon's work and therefore legacy. |
