| Michael Butler's "out-of-the-box" producing of HAIR is an example of the thrilling exceptions to formulaic producing that has resulted in many of the most exciting productions across the history of Broadway theater. HAIR had an enormous impact on the Broadway musical and on the larger culture, and wildly expanded the scope of Broadway in its day. I can think of many shows that seem indebted to it, including HAMILTON, for example. |
