I thought David Pittu was very good. I didn't have a problem with the tree, either, but a lot of people at the time did. It became kind of a joke. I thought it distracted from serious takes on the musical.
In the new version, the tree doesn't make an appearance until the end, from what I could see, though they use a large number of projections (newspaper pages, etc.). I thought it worked. |
