Due to rescheduling necessitated by illness among principal cast members, we finally offer James Wilson's review of Almost Famous at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
I have not seen the 2000 film Almost Famous, for which Cameron Crowe won the Academy Award for Best Screenplay, in more than a decade, but the performances, especially those of Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand (both nominated for Academy Awards), are indelibly etched in my cinematic memories. In the musical version that opened on Broadway last week, the characters they play seem to be so tangential to the plot, I thought my mind may be playing tricks on me. How could Hudson and McDormand have made so much from so little? |
