Last week, I returned to see Phantom before its end.
Ten years ago, it looked and sounded tired. This time, it was sharp and sparkling!
The acting and singing were excellent, but Harold Prince's direction continues to amaze. Ben Crawford's Phantom exudes such masculinity and sensuality--he modulates his voice so effectively.
With The Lion King and Hamilton in mind, Phantom does feel old fashioned for today's Bway, but I'm still sad it's closing. |
