You are wrong. I had my friend, who has multiple live recordings of the Broadway production, play LILY'S EYES for me and I listened to Patinkin and then McGillin. There is no key change on Archie's entrance to the song when Patinkin begins "She has her eyes.....", and there is CLEARLY a key change when McGillin sings it. There is simply no mistaking it when you listen to both recordings. Also, the key change at the beginning of the song is not on the cast recording, nor is it on the live version available on YouTube. I played Archie in a regional production back in the late 90s, and I played Dr. Craven in a production about 3 years ago. There is no key change for Archie at the beginning of the song. The change was clearly made to accomadate McGillin's higher register. |
