Look at the score. (Any version of it.) Archie's first section is in a different key than Craven's. Period. There is a different key signature notated in the music at that point The song changes keys there - no matter who is singing. I don't know what you're talking about. Or maybe you can't read music?
Here's the first page of the vocal selections version (this was the original Broadway key, though the published vocal score has this all a half step higher). Notice the key change when Archie starts to sing. See it? That always happens. There is NO version where Archie remains in the key that Craven starts in. There is ALWAYS a key change when Archie starts to sing.
