Some Like It Hot Last Night

The new Some Like It Hot musical is pure pleasure, capturing the spirit of classic Hollywood screwball comedies and musicals and updating their sensibilities to modern times successfully. The upbeat jazzy score by Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman sounds suited to the period and the orchestrations by Charlie Rosen and Bryan Carter are first-rate.

Bravo to the fabulous Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee, Adrianna Hicks, Kevin Del Aguila, Natasha Yvette Williams and the rest of the high spirited ensemble. Director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw does some of his best work here with several delightful dance numbers and a breathtaking scene with doors. Matthew Lopez and Amber Ruffin’s book is smart and fast-paced. I also liked the sleek set by Scott Pask and Glenn Barnes’ lovely costumes.

And thanks TDF for the row D orchestra seat.
