| Emilie Kouatchou is currently Christine in Phantom. I know it's just a reading, but anybody who can sing Christine has a voice that's almost as far as possible from Marian Anderson's. | |

| I didn't know she was currently Christine, but my first thought was that it would be difficult to find anyone today who really sings like Anderson. Just as in pop music and in theatre music, classical singing has changed. But I doubt they will worry too much about that. Anderson in her prime could sing at least up to a high C, not all that unusual for mezzos and only somewhat less unusual for contraltos. It wasn't where her voice lived or was most comfortable, but she could do it. It would hardly be surprising if someone who sings Christine might have low Gs and even Fs. The sound would be different than Anderson's down there, but the sound is probably going to be pretty different from Anderson's no matter whom they cast. |
